The Next Big
Thing
Here’s how it works: Each week an author
provides his or her answers to the ten questions below and then tags five
additional writers, each of whom answers the questions on the subsequent
Wednesday, again tagging five writers, and so on.
1. What is the working title of your next book?
Full Strength, book 2 of the Las Vegas Sinners series
2. Where did the idea come from for the book?
In general, the idea for
this series came from my love of hockey and happily ever afters. For book 2, I
knew I wanted to tell Reese’s story, so I asked myself, “What’s the worst thing
that could happen to a goalie?” Easy. An injury that took him out at the start
of playoffs. How could I make it worse? Require him to see the team’s sport
psychologist, who just happens to be the heroine. There’s attraction, and they
understand each other in a way no one else can, but as doctor and patient, they
can’t be together.
3. What genre does your book fall under?
Contemporary romance->
Sports romance -> Hockey romance
4. What actors would you choose to play the part of your
characters in a movie rendition?
I always find character
pictures before I write, and usually I get them from a talent agency website,
but other times, an actor pops into mind. This happened to be the case for
Reese at least. I see him as Matthew Lawrence J A model
named Ari Boulet is my inspiration for Allie. Pictures of both are on my
Pinterest board for Full Strength: http://pinterest.com/xjezzebelle/full-strength-inspiration/
5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Injured and potentially out
of the playoffs, Las Vegas Sinners goalie, Shane Reese, is ordered to see team
sports psychologist, Dr. Alexandra Kallen, who’s trying to prove herself after
sending her last patient back into the game before he was ready, and neither
Shane nor Allie is prepared for their undeniable connection.
6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
The first book in the
Sinners series, On the Fly will be
released by Crimson Romance on March 18 of this year. Chances are, Full Strength will be published through
Crimson as well.
7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of the
manuscript?
From conception to final
draft, On the Fly took ten years to
shape and perfect. Full Strength is
my current project, and my process is a lot more streamlined and focused. I
plan to finish it before fall 2013. Hopefully sooner!
8. What other books would you compare this story to within your
genre?
Readers familiar with
Deirdre Martin’s New York Blades series or Rachel Gibson’s Seattle Chinooks
series would enjoy the Sinners books.
9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I’ve always been curious
about goalies because every hockey player you meet will describe goaltenders as
“a different breed.” They won’t go into specifics because all hockey players
guard their superstitions well. I think it’s like when you make a wish, you
can’t tell anyone or it won’t come true. If you have a superstition that seems
to work, if you tell someone what it is, it loses its mojo. I knew I could have
fun with this.
10. So who’s up next?
I have so many writer friends, it’s hard to choose just five, so
I’m opening this to everyone. I challenge you to fill this out and post on your
own blogs. Looking forward to reading up on everyone’s works in progress!
